Why laser cut invitations?
The short answer is that: IT’S AWESOME! The long answer is that a laser cut piece can get you very fine details and add a depth to a piece that goes beyond a single card. A laser cut can be used as a layer over another design which together create some very interesting eye candy. A laser cut piece can also be the invitation itself, which stands on its own. For intricate detailed paper cut work, laser cutting is the way to go. Incorporating laser cut designs into an invitation really adds that unique look and truly creates a luxury invitation.
There are two drawbacks to custom laser cut invitations. The first is the cost. Depending on quantity, you can expect to pay between $8.00-$16.00 per laser cut piece, not counting the rest of the invitation set. For original custom designs you can also plan on an initial $300-$500 for the setup costs. The second is the color alteration (slight scorched paper look) that appears on very light shades of paper, as laser cutting is literally a burn into paper. On darker or black papers you won’t really see it, but it’s something to keep in mind.
The greatest thing about laser cut invitations is their uniqueness. They are definitely unforgettable. If you like laser cut, then I’m sure you’ll love paper cutting designs by hand.
Resources About Laser Cut Invitations
There’s a lot of great resources out on the web the for traditional paper cutting, one of my favorite artists you’ll find at the bottom of this post.

Video from Japanese Paper Artist “Mikito Ozeki”
Here’s something fun to watch, although, it has nothing to do with “Laser Cut Invitations”, it has plenty to do with art and paper and those patient enough to sit at a table for 20 hours to create something out of nothing. They’re my favorite types of people.
Video from mikitoozeki on Vimeo.
A video shot is great way to display the extensive hand cut art form created. It was hard to hear what was being said and I suppose it was not as important as the image. I really loved the shadows that appeared on the walls and floors just behind the art. Having the art sandwiched between two pieces of glass really makes them pop out at you. The alien creature holding the belt was the most intricate of the bunch. I’ll be keeping an out for any modern displays of paper cut art happening this summer in DC if we’re lucky enough. If not, New York is only a train ride away. We hope you enjoyed the video as much as us.

Black Foil on Silver Paper
How else would you celebrate a silver wedding anniversary, but with a Black Foil Invitation stamped into silver metallic paper? This party was held at the renowned Speke Resort along the northern shore of Lake Victoria, Uganda. We were told that, as it is a tradition, the invitations were hand delivered.
Why a Silver Anniversary for 25 Years of Marriage?
Answer: Tradition! Some traditional gifts for the wedding anniversaries for the first and second year is paper and then cotton. (You’re covered here if you pick up some personal stationery since we mostly print on cotton paper.) The large milestones afterwards are the 10th Year (Tin/Aluminum), 15th Year (Crystal), 20th Year (China), 25th Year (Silver) and the 30th Year (Pearl). For anything afterward, we believe that it should be a vacation to an exotic destination including and a bottomless margarita. Although the 60th anniversary is a Diamond, it was interesting to discover that the 90th anniversary is a stone!
Invitation Personalization
How do you get rich textured invitation like this? Well that’s easy, you get in touch. You can have one of these in a typography design that fits your celebration theme whether it’s a wedding invitation or a corporate event, all we have to do is change the paper, the color of the foil (it comes in hundreds of colors including silver foil, bronze foil, copper foil, gold foil, white foil, blue foil, etc.), and choose the fonts and lay out the type. For paper selection, it can have a shine to it, or it can be a matte finish. The paper can also have a textured background which looks great when letterpressed. The typography can be traditional, poster design, modern slender fonts, the positioning of the type can be at an angle. All that matters is that the invitation expresses your personal taste and style. Our customers love us for our ability help them pull out their design ideas and translate them into something wonderful. Send us a note and let’s see what we can do together.

Something Vintage Rentals
We had the pleasure of meeting Dawn, the owner of Something Vintage Rentals, on the phone one day last month. She has started an antique china, tea cups and décor business on her own and asked if we could letterpress print her business cards. The original design consisted of 4 dots and with the last dot containing a negative space of a tea cup. After talking on the phone for 30 minutes and understanding what she was trying to do with her business and design, she agreed to have us alter the design in order to fit her and the image of her business.

Custom Letterpress Business Card
As the inspiration from them comes in part from the background of her company’s website we used the needle point work design on her letterpress business card. This was done for a couple of reasons, but the main reason is that letterpress designs lend itself well to negative space. It is that space that creates the texture and the uniqueness of the cards, plus this card has such fine details, it is our experience to know that the cotton fibers would break down a bit, leaving a softer feel around the edges. Although the client still wanted the four dots to remain on her website, she did fill up that space with the doily pattern and changed out the color to teal.
For Dawn Crothers Cimino of Something Vintage Rentals, they say that she pays attention to detail, that she loves pretty things, that she has a collection of antique china, tea cups and décor for rent for you next engaging affair.
